We believe that the Bible is God’s word to men and women, and that it is trustworthy and free from error. It is our rule of faith and practice.
We also believe that the troubled and sinful world we see around us is the result of mankind’s rebellion, in rejecting both God and his pattern for our lives. As a result, our fellowship with God is spoilt and broken. For this we justly deserve punishment. The Good news is that there is a way back to God. Because God is just and holy He cannot ignore the fact that we have broken His laws. A penalty has to be paid: ‘the wages of sin is death’ (Romans 6:23). But God loves us so much that He sent His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to save us from the penalty that our sin deserves.
When Jesus died upon the cross of Calvary He took the punishment for others. He died so that we might be forgiven and have our relationship with God restored:
‘But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us’ (Romans 5:8).
